SCHOOL CALENDAR
Classes start Wednesday, September 3, 2008 - June 13, 2009. The dance season will be divided into three 12-week sessions. They are as follows:
Session I- September 3rd- November 26th
Session II- December 1st- March 14th
Session III-March 16th- June 13th
Adult class sessions will vary slightly, please look at the adult program webpage for exact dates.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Mommy and Me- This class will focus on basic ballet steps, incorporating games and creative movement.
Intro to Dance- Combines 25 minutes of ballet with 20 minutes of tap.
Ballet- This class will focus on classical ballet technique, helping to build strength, flexibility, and musicality. Pointe is also offered for students who are technically and physically ready.
Modern- This class will use Graham and Limon techniques. Some knowledge of ballet is recommended for this class.
Jazz- Students will learn classical jazz technique and will also be exposed to current styles.
Tap- This class will help improve the students sense of rhythm, musicality, and gross motor skills.
Hip-Hop/Jazz Funk- Students will learn current trends in hip-hop. Jazz Funk is a combo of Jazz/Hip Hop
Lyrical- This class combines jazz and ballet technique to express the emotions of the music. Dance Company- Students must also be enrolled in a technique class (ballet, jazz, or lyrical) in order to sign up for this class. Students will learn chorography in various styles and perform in community events/places.
CLASS ATTIRE
It is important that all students have the proper clothing and shoes so they can dance safely and comfortably. Hair must be in a bun for ballet, all other class need to have hair pulled back. Students who are not properly dressed, will not be able to participate in class. All class attire is available for purchase at The Movement Center, at discounted prices.
Boys classes- black pants and t-shirt.
Mommy and Me- pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers. Caregivers can wear comfortable clothes and socks or ballet slippers. Intro to Dance/Kindergarten Classes- pink leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, black tap shoes, pink ballet skirt (optional). Ballet - Solid color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, skirt (optional).
Tap, Jazz, and Hip-Hop- Solid color leotard, black jazz pants, black jazz and/or black tap shoes. Hip-Hop students will need black dance sneakers. Modern- Solid color leotard, footless pink/black tights or black jazz pants, no shoes.
Lyrical- Solid color leotard, footless pink/black tights, lyrical sandals, skirt (optional).
TUITION
We accept cash, check and Visa/Mastercard. Payments are due two weeks prior to the beginning of each new session. Session II payments are due by November 18th. Session III payments are due by February 27th. There will be a late charge of $5.00 per week for each overdue account. Students who are absent from a class, will have an opportunity to make up the lesson. Under no circumstances will a refund be given if a student chooses not to make up that particular lesson. There will be a service charge of $20.00 for any NSF CHECKS.
SESSION PAYMENT STRUCTURE
There is a registration fee of $20.00 per family that will be due upon enrollment. This fee will cover administrative costs and liability insurance. All payments are non-refundable. The following prices are for one 12-week session:
A. 45 MINUTE CLASSES
1 class per week $135.00
B. 60 MINUTE CLASSES
1 class per week $150.00
C. 75 MINUTE CLASSES
1 class per week $165.00

DISCOUNT PROGRAM
Families enrolled in 2 or more classes will receive 10% off the total tuition for the session. Families enrolled in 6 or more classes will receive 15% off the total tuition for the session. Families who pay tuition in full for the entire school year will receive an additional 5% discount after all other discounts have been applied. *Excludes adult classes.
PERFORMANCE/COSTUMES
There will be a performance in June for all students who wish to participate. The tenative date is Sunday, June 14, 2009. This is the culmination of the dance year where participation is optional, but encouraged. The average price of a costume is approximately $60.00 to $70.00 per class, including tights. There will be a $30.00 costume deposit required by October 15th , with the remaining balance to be paid by November 18th. Once costumes are ordered you are responsible for paying for the costume in full. After December 1st all costume deposits are non-refundable.
CANCELLATIONS
In the event of public school cancellations due to inclement weather, dance classes will also be cancelled. The studio will follow the Acton Public School systems policy. Cancellations will also be announced on the studio's answering machine. If there is a cancellation, students are welcome to take a makeup class.
